Local Walks
The original house was built in 1756 and enjoys unique uninterupted views over Elterwater tarn and the surrounding fells. From this secluded, yet convenient location some of the very best walking in the country can be enjoyed, whether you want you be up on the tops of the famous Langdale Pikes or following the river on the low levels of the valley. We are only 10 minutes by car from Ambleside and Grasmere and 20 minutes from Windermere, ideal for exploring both the central and northern Lakes.

We have fifteen double or twin rooms with baths or showers and two single rooms with adjacent facilities. Some of our bedrooms have stunning views and others have cosy original features like exposed beams.

The Lounge in autumn and winter with its log fire, or the garden seating in summer, provides the perfect setting for afternoon teas, pre-dinner drinks and chatting to fellow guests.

The bar has draught beer, garden views and is a lovely area to enjoy our 'Light Lunches', or just a pint after a long days walk.

The Restaurant, which can seat up to 40 guests, has panoramic views over Elterwater Lake and Loughrigg fell. We have a very special reputation for our food and hospitality and for the benefit of all guests we operate a non-smoking policy throughout the hotel. Please refer to Food & Wines page.

The first floor sitting area has the best view in the house and the best place for guest with lap tops to take advantage of our free wireless Broadband facility. On wet days there is plenty of space in our warm drying room to hang waterproofs and dry muddy boots.

The gardens extend to 3 acres and have beautiful views.

Guests staying with us may also use the hotels private jetty and boat for fishing Elterwater lake.
